Punish the thieves that steal your wireless

Are you having problems with your neighboors stealing your wireless? Well I'm sure most of us already know how to keep them off our wireless connection, but I found an article that instead of completely cutting people off, actually has some fun with them!

The idea is to allow others to get on your network and gain an IP address, but mess with their internet browsing. For example, no matter what URL they type in, you can redirect them to something like http://www.kittenwar.com/

The article even gives another option of using the Squid Proxy Server which allows you to flip the images, or blur them.

Read the article and enjoy the great ideas. The content is a little techy, but there are images and anyone will have a good laugh and get the general idea behind it.

Happy Birthday Nikak!

Well I'm not sure exactly when the official birthday of the blog is, since Denis created it a few days before the first post, but I figured since the very first post was made on the 26th, it's appropriate to say that we're now 1 year old! I want to thank all of you for helping us go through all that we did here and for being so active and not afraid to share opinions! Thanks again and Happy Birthday Nikak.com!

Bluetooth on iPods?

Well don't get too excited as this is not a built-in bluetooth. But instead Jabra announced a bluetooth adapter for iPods. This is one more step closer to having a true bluetooth on iPods, which of course hopefully Apple will do soon. Anyways here's the info on that adapter on engadget.com

Loose Change - The Best 9/11 Documentary

A while back I tried to watch "Fahrenheit 911" and it was crap, the guy was pulling facts out of his behind and making assumptions that were not supported by any facts at all. This documentary takes a completely different route:
"This film shows direct connection between the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the United States government.

Evidence is derived from news footage, scientific fact, and most important, Americans who suffered through that tragic day."
This is a quote from official website. I think it gives a very interesting perspective on 9/11 (Btw it was made by a bunch of American 25 year olds).

I really recommend everybody to watch that. My personal opinion about US haven't changed after watching this documentary but only strengthened. Democracy as such doesn't exist anymore. And no, it didn't go away with Bush, it's been long since gone. Here are some facts for you to consider: foreign policy, IRS is unconstitutional (nothing about individual income tax in US constitution), lack of freedom of speech (Maximus you can say all you want about this one but it exists only until you don't cross some officials path), privacy (I would assume that freedom implies owning your personal information like health insurance, credit, and etc) and so on.

And how about the fact that those that has enough money can lobby anything they like in US senate. If you want example, RIAA lobbied to require from Russia to shut down an All Of Mp3s.com website in order to join WTO. Wiretapping is next. It happen without your citizens consent and did anybody got punished for doing that illegal? Of course not.

Anyway watch the movie and then comment. Here's the link on Google Videos to it. (1h 21min long)

Materazzi banned too....WHAT!!!???

Wow. That's all I have to say. How can they put an insult to one's sister on the same level as a killer intentional headbutt? Is this just more FIFA favoritism? Thoughts?

Btw, I think your sister is really cool. :->

Tesla Roadster - pushing the limits of electric cars

Wired had an article today talking about this car - Tesla's Roadster that runs on more than 6800 lithium batteries! For those who don't know, lithium batteries are the batteries that your laptops use. These wasn't the only interesting thing about this car. It does 0-60 in about 4 seconds, and, according to Wired the realistic top speed is 130mph (even though the dash goes up to 150mph).

Working online without distractions

Many of us do a lot of work in our browser window. But we also tend to use the same browser window for entertaintment. Sometimes things like YouTube, Google Video, Bloglines and Digg get in the way of work because we spend way to much time reading about the cool new gadgets that just came out.

The solution to this problem is actually very simple. If you use Firefox there is a little known feature included that allows you to have multiple profiles. A profile is a browser instance with it's own settings, bookmarks, history and etc. When you're opeining Firefox for the first time you're actually using a "default" profile.

What you can do is create a separate profile just for work. Here is the list of some advantages:

  • No "play" bookmarks
  • No "play" usernames/passwords (I let Firefox remember mine)
  • Install only those extensions needed for work (Firefox works faster)
When you try it out you can create another profile for your spouse or maybe a guest profile (I personally have one for my girlfriend where she has her own bookmarks like People.com and such).

Now let's get down and dirty. Creating a new profile is actually very easy. To bring up the profile manager you will need to:

  • Close Firefox completely
  • Go to Start->Run, enter firefox.exe -profilemanager and press OK.

There you will find a "Create Profile" button. After creating a profile all you'll need to do to have this dialog appear every time you start a browser is uncheck "Don't ask at startup".

That's it, you're done. Go ahead and configure your new profile. This will hopefully eliminate most of your non-work related distractions.

End of Fifa World Cup 2006

Well another world cup came to an end and once again we witnessed some amazing games, amazing players - old and new, some let downs and disappointments. We witnessed many underdogs step up and really stick it to the power houses and I believe we saw many changes in the way that some teams played - Germany, Italy and many more. So now we wait again for 4 years with great anticipation and hope that whatever team we love will be in South Africa in 2010 and win our hearts and perhaps even the great title of being the Fifa World Cup Champions.

We also witnessed a record breaking amount of comments to our post on our blog and also a huge increase in the amount of visits to our blog! I want to encourage all of you to keep coming and posting whatever you're interested in. Even if you don't think that people here have an opinion on it, post it anyways because we do have outside visitors. Thanks again for making it so much fun!

Adidas Golden Ball List

Hey since we're so spirited about this world cup, I wanted to post the "Adidas golden ball list" that has all the candidates on the golden ball this year. It's an award given to the best player of the world cup after each world cup and it doesn't have to be a player on the winning team.

Adidas Golden Ball List

I figured we can comment on all the candidates and give our oppinions on it!

From Carine: Randall on ESPN2 - Big Debut! :->

Some of you might not have heard, but Randall competed in the ESPN's And1 Streetball championship when they came out to Salt Lake City. He was selected out of 250 people that came to try out and made the local team.

He didn't even know he was going to try out. I told him that as Father's Day gift, we were going to go to a local Sport's Bar to shoot some hoops but instead we arrived to the E-center parking lot where the try-outs were taking place. We even had court-side tickets to watch the game, little did we know he was going to be in the game!! We knew he made the team when the producer of the show announced "Hey, white boy that just did that dunk...come over here.....what size of shoes do you wear? we need to get you your uniform..." I think I too made the show because I was screaming so much!

The show will air on ESPN2 on Tuesday, July 11 at 10:00 pm EST (8:00 pm MST).

Hope you can catch it! He got dunked on a lot by the pro's, but his basketball ego isn't very big nowadays anyway so he got over it pretty quick :)

Take care -

Carine
