All those who love Linux and love using it at some point came to love the shell and its capabilities. Well apparently Microsoft is starting to realize the power of the shell... They just released a beta release of their Monad (microsoft shell) and from the looks of it, it's not that bad.

At first glance it wasn't anything different from the usual command prompt. So I tried the usual "help" command, but instead of listing the commands I got a prompt that I should try "help *" for listing of commands. The second command gave a different result from the old command prompt help command. Right off the bat I noticed the process commands and killed a few processes through the shell (: hehe.

One thing I was upset about, but not surprised, is that the commands were almost all different from what you're used to in Linux and of course very "Microsoftish" and by that I mean the names are pretty lame hehe. Now a new Linux user would argue the opposite probably stating that Linux shell commands are pretty bad. But Monad has aliasing so that shouldn't be a problem.

Anyways I should probably be a little more optimistic about this and say that whatever they have right now is still a humongous improvement on the good old command prompt.

Here's a very nice link with a 13 page tour of Monad that talks about some of the capabilities that it has. I was impressed with some of it and laughed at others. Check it out and see for yourselves (:

P.S. If you want to download the shell and try it you need to upgrade to .NET Framework 2.0 (which is still in beta). The official download of the shell is on Microsoft's website, but you have to register... and who wants to register with Microsoft? I mean seriously... hehe. The name of the file is "monad_b2_50215_x86.zip" so you can Google it instead and find alternative links for the download.

Ok well how many of us have found this awesome flash file online and wished we could get the music that's played in it! Well... I never wanted it as bad until this one song I found and I was like ok time for bloogle (: (aka bla combined with google) and sure enough found an app that does the job!

Some recent changes that were implemented:

- Changed the format of the Archives on the right side of the screen so it's much easier to look through ("September 2005" instead of "?!/?!/!?")
- The main page now displays 4 days of posts instead of 3.
- The posts and comments are limited to the members of this blog (old change by bla).

The comments can be changed so that they're open for every Blogger member. We could open that but then you'll need to enter the word that's graphically displayed wierdly, just to protect against advertisement bots. What do you guys think?

txt :: Effectiveness and current state of "democracy"

Another non-technical post :)

With somewhat recent events of attempts to establish democracy in some contries, that I'll name "X" for the sake of not offending sombodies political views, we can see that the democracy in doesn't really work in some cases just because the people don't really know what to do with the freedom that is given to them. Russia was a very good but sad example of that. After the collapse organaised crime bloomed. And that was because people just didn't know what to do with the freedom.

I think that it should be done gradually freeing people step by step giving them more freedoms. It is very challenging to do because at one point you need to say enough so that the country doesn't fall into anarchy. But with great deal of planning and control it ould be done. Some of the wise men of old said that "Controlling the many is as simple as controlling the few it's only a matter of organization".

Recently I bought a book "Art of War" by Sun Tzu, it's a very small book that is written in a form of a manual for how to conduct warfare but I think it has much greater spectrum of applications. One of them is controlling and organizing people within an organization.

Governments are same old organizations whose product is contries success or failure. All the principles that apply to successful organizations apply to gevernments. And the people are the shareholders that should (but don't in democrasies of today) have a vote in countries course. Right now it all limits by the elections because after that we have to deal with whatever the beast that we elected chooses to do. It needs to be different. Isn't there a better, more failproof way?

So somebody (might have been even bla) showed me Picasa and since I have a lot of pictures I liked it when I opened it at first but then I stopped using it because I didn't do a lot of picture editing or anything like that. So yesterday I needed to send a lot of pictures to somebody over the email and I remembered that it has some kind of integration with gmail. So I said: "what the heck, I'll try". Well I couldn't even imagine how easy that would be.

First I went to options and said the resolution for the files that go out through email. By default they are a little too small. I set it to maximum which is 1024 px so it's a very good quality. Then I looked up the shortcut for the email send command (yes, I'm a shortcut freak) and it was Ctrl+E (how unusual :) ). And then something happen that made me fall in love with this program once and forever. It added all of my pictures to the attachments (yes it does videos too) and allowed me to write an email as I usually would. It even pulled my contacts from gmail so I didn't have to remember the long emails of my friends.

I really recommend you guys to try it. If you have a digital camera it's a must have (it's free). Some of the other features that are in there are: importing from devices (digital camera and etc.), basic but pretty powerful editing tools (red eye, resize, crop and etc., all of them are implemented as scripts so they don't modify the original image [you can ofcourse export the result]), creating gift CD's or DVD's with slideshows on them, sending through email (and not just gmail there are other ways too), backing up your pictures on CD's or DVD's. Automatic watching of your folders for new images and many more.

txt :: Infatuation vs. love

Ok, I know that relationships and marriage are the most common and for some people the most favorite subjects at BYU. This is not something I usually talk about, however I would like to get your opinion on that, maybe I just do not understand something. I started thinking about this topic, just because about 15 minutes ago I talked to my friend who mentioned that she may be getting married. I was pretty excited to hear that, until she said that she had been dating a guy for a week and then added that they had been hanging out for 2 weeks! Oh, well that ought to do it, a whole extra week to get to know a person, since 2 weeks is really all you need to be ready for marriage and children!!!!
I have two of my friends who got married and divorced within a year, one of them just barely turned 21. I understand that things happen and come up that sometimes it is impossible to save the marriage, but would that be possible to prevent some of the problems if one took more time to get to know the person they are marrying?
This issue really buggs me, I mean can people hang in there for about a year and get to know each other, or do they just want to have sex so much that they are ready to jeopardize their future marriage. I am no expert here, but I am pretty sure that there is far more into marriage than sex. I apologize if I am being to open here.
I am sure that when people get married they have tender feelings and want to spend the rest of their lives with the person that they are dating and all they can think about is that person, but to me it sounds like infatuation, which is nice feeling...for dating, but not powerful enough to save the relationship when needed.
I would love to get more opinions on this one
