txt :: Back to Ohio

Alrighty. I just wanted to throw this out to everyone and thank you for making my visit to Provo so much fun! I definately had a blast (: Sorry for those who I didn't get to see... maybe next time eh? :P

And now it's back to school for a lot of us! And as much as we might hate it, I think we're the lucky ones. So :P to all of you who are graduated! (: hehe. Although you do make more money... and don't have to put up with homework and things outside your work... and no tests to worry about... no grades either... hmmm... well before I get the wrong message across on the first day of classes... just want to say have a great school year to all those who are still in school! And to those who aren't - good luck if you're looking for a job and have fun if you're already working! (:

txt:: barca sucks

before anyone gets the idea of posting about soccer, i thought i'd make something clear. if you're ever going to post about soccer you must admit 3 things:

1. barca AC Milan is the team of your dreams
2. barca AC Milan will win the champions league this year
3. no player comes close to ronaldinho Shevchenko

if you takes these tenets to be true, you may then post about soccer.

sincerely,

txt :: A cry for help...

Hey guys, this is an attempt to inspire you to write and post articles to the blog.

We're just trying to start the motion by continuing doing it ourselves.

If you want to write about your favorite monkey brother and/or child (must have pictures) or about the trip that you made to some local Dairy Queen (include ice cream pictures). It doesn't have to be all computers or computer related stuff.

Our intent is to have an online bar for our friends to gather and post things for others to comment and talk about.

So far we have been doing a good job in keeping up but we're trying to take beyond the first (and sometimes only) post.

Thanks for joining and supporting us in maintaining and keeping this blog alive, you guys really mean a lot to both of us.

Thanks,

-bla & fake.

txt :: The TV madness

Welcome back to our weekly report on the latest developments in time taking, money sucking technologies.

Yes, you guessed it right, I'm talking about Time Vanish or as most people use to call it - the TV.

How come that when we sit down to watch a movie that's an hour and 30 minutes long we spend at least two and a half hours in front of the screen. How come that when the culminating moment of the movie is about to unfold we have to wait for another five minutes to find out what actually is going to happen. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking about the commercials.

It's funny how the television companies became so good at grabbing our attention and wasting our time that we don't even notice it anymore.

The day started with a wonderful sunny morning. Birds were singing and mood was at the 100% bar but then you suddenly saw a show running on the TV. Next thing you know it's evening and you're also fat because you ate so many snacks without even noticing it.

How many years will it take for us to understand what the TV acronym really stands for - the Time Vanish. We have 70 or 80 years (if we're lucky) on this Earth and we're wasting it finding out about Always Plus and how the pills kill the lightning in our bodies.

I thought we were educated people, at least educated enough not to be let like cattle to slaughter. But we aren't. All we do is watch the blinking screen that shows the erotic bodies that sit on some beach in Alaska and call us to join them for a dream vacation. Or how about trucks that can pull a train with their zillions of horse power. How many of you actually do pull trains with a truck on a daily basis?

Think about it. It's your freaking life. I made my choice.

P.S. After rereading I felt like a tree hugging advertiser... Oh well... :)

txt :: Education Week

Well let me say one good thing about it before I start casting stones in that direction. The education people are better than EFY.

That's the only good thing about it. Now the fun part. :)

Several thousands of people that are walking around campus with nothing else to do but to stare at the students who are actually studying/working and ask them stupid questions like:

"Are you a BYU student?"
"Yes."
"Then how do I get to Eyring building?"

and others alike.

Frankly, I find it quite annoying. I just can't imagine that some 6 years ago I was a part of this annoying crowd for the whole week. I feel so ashamed.

The only speaker that is somewhat worth mentioning is John Bytheway, all others are semi-fun. If you get a chance you can actually go and listen to him, he is a very funny guy.

Education week sucks! I was wondering if there is ever going to be a week when nobody will actually be on campus (except for Christmas and next week).

Sorry for this lousy complains. Just having another early morning.

txt :: Just to clear things up!

Ok ok... it seems like we need to clear some things up. I know how it goes to be new to blogs since this is my first one as well (before that I only picked on people who used blogs). So I'm not trying to pick on ya Lolik :P hehe. (nice pic by the way lol) Anyways!

There's two ways you can post (or at least only 2 that I know of). One way is to create a post like the ones you see when you see the blog, or you can comment on a post that already exists! So if there's a post you can read what others commented about it. If you want to read what others commented or add your own comment just look at the end of the post and you'll see a link that'll say "0 comments" or "2 comments" or however many there are at the time. Just click on that and you'll see the comments and there'll be a way to add a new one of your own! (:

There we go! I hope this helps (: Thanks for pointing that out Lolik!

Oh and as far as nikak goes - I threw it in the comment under memo's post since he asked (:

Ok one more thing. When you write a post make sure you hit "Publish Post" instead of "Save as Draft" (I've done this so many times). If you save it as draft you won't see your post (so if you don't see your post check that first).

txt :: A few things we like to do here on this blog

Hey there!

Just wanted to throw out a few little things we like to do here on this blog. As you all know fake loves to take pictures... and to make things worse he recently got a digital camera! hehe sorry there fake :P but you know it's true! (: So in order for us to be able to tell what post is what we came up with a little scheme.

The way this works is when you give a title to your post you include a little identifier of what this post mainly contains. So far we only have 3 identifiers that you probably already noticed on the blog: txt, link, pics. So if you're posting text (like I did in this post) you can include have the txt identifier, if you're sharing a link you can have the link identifier and finally if you're putting pictures (which we would love you to do!) then you put pics.

Now the way we do it is you put the identifier followed by 2 colons and then followed by the title of your post. For example:

txt :: my cool text post!

Now for all you programmers and engineers out there - no, txt is NOT a C++ class so don't try to get away with it by just including a namespace... OK sorry I just had to say that lol.

We'll also display the posts for the last 2 days only, however there are archive links usually on the right side that let you select any of the other days that aren't displayed.

Thanks and enjoy!

txt :: Places in the "Open File Dialog"

To add places (fast access icons on the left) to the "Open File Dialog" go to the path below in the registry (use "regedit" command):
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\Policies\Comdlg32\Placesbar]

The last two keys (Comdlg32\Placesbar) are not there so you'll need to create them.

Once you're in the "Placesbar" key you can add values.

Naming convention is (and no, you can't put kitty0, kitty1... only Place0):

Place0
Place1
...

You can either create a String or DWORD value. Strings allow you to put any path you want (even network path) and for DWORD (it's supposed to be hexidecimal [that's what it is by default]) use the values below to put some predefined folders.

0 - Desktop
1 - IE
2 - Programs
3 - Control Panel
4 - Printers & Faxes
5 - My Documents
6 - Favorites
7 - Startup
8 - My Recent Documents
9 - SendTo
10 - Desktop (folder)
11 - My Computer
12 - My Network Places
13 - NetHood
14 - Fonts
15 - Templates
16 - Start Menu

Have fun,

txt :: Did you know?

I just read about a great command in the Vim editor and figured I'll put it up just in case someone is interested (:

The command is: !command (where command is a linux command), Vim will exit, run that command on the shell line, output the output and all you have to do is hit "enter" to go back to the code!

Here's an example. Say you're editing a java file called somejavacode.java and you'd like to compile it. Well you don't even have to exit your java file! Here's all you have to do:

!javac somejavacode.java

This will exit vim, compile the java file, output whatever the output is (errors if there are any) and wait for you to hit "enter" to get back to your java file!

What can I say - It's all about the little things! (:
