Soccer helmets?

OK this goes on the list of "You know you're in the US if." And the answer is "if you're required to wear a helmet while playing soccer."

The state of Massachusetts is trying to pass a law that would require anyone playing soccer to wear a helmet. Apparently they are worried because head/brain injuries are not so uncommon in soccer. While I understand where they're coming from, I think it's still extremely silly. Can you imagine during the world cup hearing the commentator, "and here comes the USA team wearing their protective helmets!"

Anyways just wanted to throw this out there and see what you guys think, since a very large percent of our crowd here are big soccer heads (pun intended lol).

Finally I'd like to quote Jerry Seinfeld on this issue:

"There are many things that we can point to that proof that the human being is not smart. The helmet is my personal favorite. The fact that we had to invent the helmet. Now why did we invent the helmet? Well, because we were participating in many activities that were cracking our heads. We looked at the situation. We chose not to avoid these activities, but to just make little plastic hats so that we can continue our head-cracking lifestyles."

how about wearing... a chest protector, shoulder guards, back guard, ab guard, abdomen guard, shin guard, gloves, face protector and hugging the ball and running? ... and form a world series and not invite other countries !!

alright you guys....i get the point. But remember, there is no World Series in football, that's baseball (which has more of a right to call it 'world'), but I do think it's ridiculous to have "world" titles and not involve the world. But you have to think of if this way. Would you say that the team that wins Champions League is the best team in the world? Some ppl might because most of the best players in the world play in the Euro leagues. Not all, but you could still make a good case. I don't think it's right to call it world title but I can see the reasoning. Baseball has about 30% of players from outside the US plus there are Canadian teams. But don't worry, noone is dumb enough to talk about the MLS using those words.

As for football, are you saying those guys are wussies? I'm with Jerry Seinfeld. Why invent a game that requires all those pads/helmets so that you can play it?

Soccer with helmets is a retarded idea that hopefully won't catch on. How do you find these stories?

Winner of Champions League isn't the best team in the world by title. The cup is a European cup so the winner is only the best in Europe. However it's considered to be the most prestigious cup just because the competing teams are from Europe and at the moment Europe is known for one of the best soccer in the world. But actually there's things like the Intercontinental Cup where the winner of Champion's League plays the winner of the South American club competition (maybe US needs to try and get in on something like that?). But one way or another only World Cup qualifies you as the world champions and nothing else in soccer.

As far as football, they're not wussies per say... lol jk. Football is a fun sport, I enjoy watching it, there's definitely skill involved no doubt, but I do want to say that it's not as rough and harsh of a sport as some people think/portray it. And the fact that you're wearing pads is what helps that. That's why there are more injuries in soccer then in football.
