Trying to revive nikak: XBox death

Hi guys!

What's new? So if you've been keeping up with the console gaming wars, (how can you not!!??) you might have seen how Nintendo Wii is kicking ars with it's non-traditional approach to casual games designed to bring everybody into the gaming world. Sony just clipped $100 off it's PS3, and Microsoft, well, they are dealing with a big problem in their XBox's: They die!!

To wit, my beloved 360 Gears of War machine died a few weeks ago with the notorious "Red Rings of Death" or RROD for short. Many of the people I battled against online also had hardware failures and RROD. So many, that there is obviously something rotten in the 360. Check this link for more details: http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/bizfocus/archives/2007/07/15/2003369704

When I took it back to the mecca of returns (COSTCO!!!), they of course gladly gave me another one without questions. I asked them if they do a lot of 360 returns, they said they estimate about one third of them are returned with hardware failure. A friend of mine online has gone through 4 machines already!!!!

Of course, Microsoft was in total denial about this problem! They actually tried to say it was because of people's surge protectors, can you buy that!!!?? Anyway, it's news today because Microsoft is finally owning the problem and they have extended their warranty to 3 years.

Just thought you all might like to know. What's the moral of the story? Always always always buy your electronics from CostCo.

:)

What if I don't have a costco near me? :( Oh I know! I just won't buy a 360! lol :P I'm one of the few that's not in the console wars at all because I don't own any although I have to say I'm very tempted to buy a Wii because the new Guitar Hero 3 is coming out soon and I'd rather have it on the Wii then any of the other consoles.

Then you have to go through Microsoft Warranty Process, which takes about a month and $150 bucks if the 1 year warranty is expired. (Speaking from personal experience :) Looks like I'll be getting a refund though. At least gotta give it to Microsoft for owning up to the problem.... Eventually.

my XBOX 360 died earlier this year, had the same red blinking ring, but got it replaced for free... knowing Microsoft makes bad software, i guess they make bad hardware too... i read an article a month ago saying MS had XBox 360 hardware returns to the tune of $1 billion !!

My brother-in-law's XBox just died the 3 Red Rings Death a couple of weeks ago. (Yeah, it's Nico - he has posted on here once or twice) Sucks for him 'cos he had Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed on pre-order. He'll be staring at the game boxes until the 360 gets back from Microsoft. just wanted to keep everyone up to date.
